Dávid Adorján – Violoncello

Dávid Adorján is the descendent of a famous musical family. Born in 1972 in Cologne, he received his first cello lessons at the age of five. His teachers were Jan Polasek, Frans Helmerson and Heinrich Schiff.

In 1986, Dávid Adorján was winner of the Federal Award “Jugend Musiziert”. In 1993 he was awarded the “Kulturförderpreis Gasteig” and in 1994 he won first prize at the International Cello Contest in Gorizia, Italy.

Since 1996, Dávid Adorján has been frequently invited to perform as a solo cellist with orchestras like the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden. In 1999, he became cello soloist of the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin.

Dávid Adorján is a chamber music partner of Renaud Capuçon, Jörg Widmann, Bruno Weinmeister and Heinrich Schiff as well as of the pianists Alexander Lonquich, Oliver Triendl, Alexandre Rabinovitch, Paolo Giacometti and Anna Gourari.

As a soloist, Dávid Adorján has performed with various orchestras in Germany, Italy, France, Turkey, Slovenia, Austria, Japan and South America, lead by conductors such as Christopher Hogwood, Michael Gielen and Mariss Jansons.

Radio productions of the BR, SWR, WDR and the DRS in Switzerland, as well as CD productions with labels like cpo and Thorofon reflect his artistic excellence. In 1998, a TV production of the Cello Concerto in A minor by Carl Phillipp Emanuel Bach was recorded in the Munich Prinzregententheater, accompanied by the Bach Collegium München conducted by Christopher Hogwood.

Dávid Adorján plays a Violoncello from Carlo Giuseppe Testore, Milan, dating from 1697.
