Gergely Madaras – Conductor

Hungarian conductor Gergely Madaras is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians of his homeland.
Born in 1984 in Budapest, he began his musical education studying the flute, violin and composition. In 2009 he graduated from the flute faculty of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He graduates from the orchestral conducting faculty of the University of Music in Vienna in June, 2010.

In the summer of 2009 Mr Madaras received the Seiji Ozawa Fellowship and was invited to be a conducting fellow at the Tanglewood Music Centre, working there with James Levine, Herbert Blomstedt, and Mark Morris, among others. In 2008 he was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, studying with David Zinman.

As a conductor, Mr Madaras has performed in every major Hungarian concert hall. He is permanent guest-conductor of the Grazioso Chamber Orchestra of the Hungarian National Philharmonic and has made numerous guest-conducting appearances in Austria, France, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and the USA.
He has recorded for Hungaroton, Hungarian Radio and ORF.

Highlights of the 2009/2010 season include a debut with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Musikverein, a Polish debut with the Wroclaw Philharmony Orchestra, a recording production for the Hungarian National Theatre and an invitation to the Wien Modern Festival.
He received an invitation from Pierre Boulez for the 2010 Lucerne Festival Academy, and was recently appointed as Leverhulme Junior Fellow in Conducting at the RNCM in Manchester, starting from the 2010/11 season.
