Pavel Gomziakov – Violoncello![]() The cellist Pavel Gomziakov was born in the city of Tchaikovsky, Russia, in 1975. He began his musical studies at the age of nine with Elena Kopilova. When he was thirteen he received first prize in the All-Russian competition for young musicians. In 1990 he entered the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow, where he studied with Professor David Grigoryan. In 1995 he started studying at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he worked with Professor Dmitry Miller. In 2000 he graduated with distinction from the conservatory with a Master’s degree in cello performance. He currently continues his studies at the Conservatoire National de Paris with Professor Phillip Muller. He has also undertaken master classes with David Geringas, Boris Pergamenschikov, Lynn Harrell, Frans Helmerson and Natalia Gutman. Pavel has an active performing career as soloist and as a chamber musician. As soloist with orchestra he has performed with the Moscow State Conservatory Orchestra and the Reina Sofia Chamber Orchestra, with conductors such as Leonid Nikolaev, Jesús López Cobos and Antoni Ros-Marbá. With the Reina Sofia Chamber Orchestra he made compact disc recordings of both the Schumann Cello Concerto and the Beethoven Triple Concerto. He has collaborated in chamber music performances with artists such as Zakhar Bron, Gérard Caussé, José Luis García-Asensio and Eldar Nebolsin. Pavel Gomziakov is a prize winner of various international cello competitions, including a special prize at the 2002 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and first prize at the 4th International Strings Competition “Julio Cardona” in Portugal in 2003. In addition, he was awarded the Jean Nikolas Fiermenich Prize for the most outstanding cellist at the 2001 Verbier International Academy Summer Festival. In the 2003/04 season he was able to fulfil guest engagements as a cello soloist at the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the Theatre La Monnaie in Brussels. |
