Sarah Christ – Harp

Born into a musical family in 1980, Sarah Christ has succeeded in establishing a reputation as a multi-faceted harpist. She performs as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles, as well as in orchestras throughout Europe.

In 1990 she had her first harp lessons with Margit Süß and later with Marie-Pierre Langlamet. In 1999 she began to study with Catherine Michel (Detmold, Germany), then with Fabrice Pierre (Lyon) and joined the chamber music class of Helga Storck (Munich).

At the age of 21 Sarah Christ was engaged as a harpist by the State Opera in Vienna. Two years later she gave up this position in order to concentrate on her soloist and chamber music career. Nevertheless she performs with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and was invited to play in the Lucerne Festival Orchestra by Claudio Abbado.

In 1993 she gave her debut as a soloist with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. She has since been invited by numerous orchestras, including the Opera Orchestra Prague, the Jena Philharmonic, the Sinfonietta Cologne, and the Mahler Academy Orchestra. In addition, Sarah Christ holds a scholarship from the German Music Council. She has performed at festivals such as Lockenhaus, Lucerne Festival, Prague Autumn Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Tanglewood and the Schwetzinger Festival with Emmanuel Pahud, Gérard Caussé, Renaud Capuçon and Bruno Grossi amongst others.

Sarah has formed a duo with her brother Raphael (violin) with whom she won 1st prize in the BDI competition. In 2002 she founded the Bax Trio (Christoph Renz – flute, Dirk Niewöhner – viola) which focuses on music from the 20th century.

In 2005 Sarah Christ was coach to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra.
