Thun School of Music

Thun’s School of Music has been located on the Bellerive country estate, part of the Gwatt Manor (Gwattgut), since 1976.
Documentation from as early as 1273 states the manor as belonging to Rudolf von Strättlingen. Over the centuries it was repeatedly taken over by other noble and affluent families.
Fountains and running wells in the expansive gardens are partly fed by the manor’s own springs. In the public Bonstetten Park, a much-loved lakeside path winds along the undisturbed shore.

During renovations to the estate in 1922 made by the owner at the time, noteworthy murals were discovered in the interior, including a Diana and a Venus.

The manor’s most recent owner, Mrs von Bonstetten, sold the property to the canton of Bern and the city of Thun in 1960; they have since been joint owners.
In 1985/1986 the estate was renovated once again and adapted to serve the requirements of a music school. Thus, the truss was converted and furnished with soundproof rooms. Additionally, a small music hall was constructed in the southern court building, above which several soundproof classrooms are located.
